Types of Epoxy Flooring

There are several different types of epoxy flooring that you can choose from.  These include:

  • Self dispersing epoxy floors – this is a very strong floor and thus is used in areas of high traffic and heavy use.
  • Self dispersing epoxy floors with quartz sand – same as a self dispersing epoxy floor but with excellent anti slip properties.
  • Self levelling epoxy floors – these floors are easy to clean and look after and they are very popular for use in kitchens, dining rooms, and so on.
  • Epoxy terrazzo floors – these are also very decorative epoxy floors and they are mainly used in large spaces.
  • Mortar epoxy floors – this is the strongest of all epoxy floors available. They are also good for repairing cracks before laying another type of epoxy floor.
  • Gravelled epoxy floors – this the most decorative of all epoxy floors but it is also the most complicated floor to lay.  These floors have good anti slip qualities.

  • Epoxy flaked floors – these floors are epoxy based but they actually have coloured chips or flakes laid within the floors for decoration.  The flakes also provide a slightly rough surface that provides good anti slip qualities.  The flakes come in different colours and can be mixed in the combination of your choice.
  • Epoxy antistatic floors – these are used in sensitive areas where there should be no static present in the environment at all.

Epoxy is a term that’s come to represent a class of materials and the act of using those materials. Epoxy “systems” are based on a combination of resins and hardeners. When mixed together, the resin and hardener chemically react to form a rigid plastic material.

RONSEAL DIAMOND HARD GARAGE FLOOR PAINT

Epoxy Paint Malaysia Price – Diamond Hard Garage Floor Paint is our toughest paint. It’ll stand up to oil leaks and fuel spills and will leave a finish that’s hard enough to drive on.

Before You Start

Remember to open all doors and windows for the best ventilation. You’ll need to move everything out of your garage, so make sure it’s left in a safe and secure place. Finally, get rid of any oil and grease stains and give the floor a good sweep.

Prep – Bare Floors

Make sure newly laid concrete has been left out for a month before you start to paint. This gives it enough time to bond and will mean there will be less dust when you prep it.

Wire brush the floor and remove any dust. Concrete floors can react with the paint and cause it to crack and blister. To stop this from happening, you’ll need to seal the floor first with a separate Stabilising Solution. Alternatively just pour some of the paint into a container and dilute with 10% water. Then apply onto your floor with a brush or roller.
Leave to dry before starting to paint.

Prep – Previously Painted Floors

To get a good surface for the paint to stick to, make sure you’ve wire brushed the floor and wiped it down with white spirit.

USING YOUR FLOOR PAINT

1. Use a large brush, roller or Perfect Finish Pad to put it on.

2. Give the paint a really good stir. Start at the opposite end of the garage and work in small sections towards the door. Remember not to paint yourself into a corner!

3. You’ll need to put another 1-2 coats down, leaving 4-6 hours between coats.

4. The floor will be at it’s hardest after 72 hours. This is when we would recommend you start putting cars and motorbikes back into the garage.

Usage Areas: All concrete and stone garage floors. Not suitable for self levelling compound or power floated floors.
Compatibility: Bare and previously painted floors.
Clean Up: Clean all brushes with warm, soapy water

This mosaic-like floor topping for concrete substrates goes on at a thickness of only ¼ to 3/8 inch. It is excellent for multi-colored patterns and designs because of the epoxy resin matrix. It can be pigmented, like paint, to achieve an unlimited spectrum of colors. It can also be colored with aggregates, including chips of marble or granite, recycled glass, mother of pearl, and various synthetic materials. Virtually indestructible, epoxy terrazzo is ideal for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities, especially where durability, longevity, and minimal maintenance are crucial. The color and design versatility of epoxy terrazzo also makes it a popular choice for decorative flooring installations, especially in high-traffic retail facilities.  Virtually indestructible, epoxy terrazzo is ideal for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities, especially where durability, longevity, and minimal maintenance are crucial. Industrial Flooring

Flooring is the general term for a permanent covering of a floor, or for the work of installing such a floor covering. Floor covering is a term to generically describe any finish material applied over a floor structure to provide a walking surface. Both terms are used interchangeably but floor covering refers more to loose-laid materials.

Materials almost always classified as flooring include carpet, laminate, tile and vinyl.

The floor under the flooring is called the subfloor, which provides the support for the flooring. Special purpose subfloors like floating floors, raised floors or sprung floors may be laid upon another underlying subfloor which provides the structural strength. Subfloors that are below grade (underground) or ground level floors in buildings without basements typically have a cement subfloor. Subfloors above grade (above ground) typically have a plywood subfloor.

The choice of material for floor covering is affected by factors such as cost, endurance, noise insulation, comfort and cleaning effort. Some types of flooring must not be installed below grade, including laminate and hardwood due to potential damage from moisture.

The sub-floor may be finished in a way that makes it usable without any extra work, see:

  • Earthen floor adobe or clay floors
  • Solid ground floor cement screed or granolithic or floor cement

Hard flooring (not to be confused with “hardwood”) is a family of flooring materials that includes concrete or cement, ceramic tile, glass tiles, and natural stone products.

Ceramic tile are clay products which are formed into thin tiles and fired. Ceramic tiles are set in beds of mortar or mastic with the joints between tiles grouted. Varieties of ceramic tiles include quarry tile, porcelain, terracotta.

Many different natural stones are cut into a variety of sizes, shapes, and thicknesses for use as flooring. Stone flooring is uses a similar installation method to ceramic tile. Slate and marble are popular types of stone flooring that requires polishing and sealing. Stone aggregates, like Terrazzo, can also used instead of raw cut stone and are available as either preformed tiles or to be constructed in-place using a cement binder.

Porcelain stoneware can be used instead of natural stone. It is a ceramic material like a tile; however, it is typically 20 mm (0.79 in) thick and often comes in squares of 60 cm (24 in).

Concrete or cement finished floor is also used for its ability to be treated for different feel and its durability, such as polished concrete. Epoxy resurfacing of concrete flooring is used to update or upgrade concrete floor surfaces in commercial and residential applications.

Paints and coatings

Epoxy Floor Malaysia – Two part epoxy coatings were developed for heavy duty service on metal substrates and use less energy than heat-cured powder coatings. These systems provide a tough, protective coating with excellent hardness. Some epoxy coatings are formulated as an emulsion in water, and can be cleaned up without solvents. Epoxy coatings are often used in industrial and automotive applications since they are more heat resistant than latex-based and alkyd-based paints. Epoxy paints tend to deteriorate, known as “chalking out“, due to UV exposure.[5]

Epoxy Floor Malaysia -Polyester epoxies are used as powder coatings for washers, driers and other “white goods”. Fusion Bonded Epoxy Powder Coatings (FBE) are extensively used for corrosion protection of steel pipes and fittings used in the oil and gas industry, potable water transmission pipelines (steel), and concrete reinforcing rebar. Epoxy coatings are also widely used as primers to improve the adhesion of automotive and marine paints especially on metal surfaces where corrosion (rusting) resistance is important. Metal cans and containers are often coated with epoxy to prevent rusting, especially for foods like tomatoes that are acidic. Epoxy resins are also used for decorative flooring applications such as terrazzo flooring, chip flooring, and colored aggregate flooring. Epoxies were modified in a variety of ways, Reacted with fatty acids derived from oils to yield epoxy esters, which were cured the same way as alkyds . Typical ones were L8(80% linseed, D4 (40% Dehydrated castor oil). These were often reacted with styrene to make styrenated epoxy esters, used a primers. Curing with phenolics to make drum linings, curing esters with amine resins and pre-curing epoxies with amino resins to make resistant top coats. One of the best examples was a system of using solvent free epoxies for priming ships during construction, this used a system of hot airless spray with premixing at the head. This obviated the problem of solvent retention under the film, which caused adhesion problems later on.

Industrial tooling and composites by Epoxy Floor Malaysia

Epoxy systems are used in industrial tooling applications to produce molds, master models, laminates, castings, fixtures, and other industrial production aids. This “plastic tooling” replaces metal, wood and other traditional materials, and generally improves the efficiency and either lowers the overall cost or shortens the lead-time for many industrial processes. Epoxies are also used in producing fiber-reinforced or composite parts. They are more expensive than polyester resins and vinyl ester resins, but usually produce stronger and more temperature-resistant thermoset polymer matrix composite parts by Epoxy Floor Malaysia.

Epoxy is a term used to denote both the basic components and the cured end products of epoxy resins, as well as a colloquial name for the epoxide functional group. Epoxy resins, also known as polyepoxides, are a class of reactive prepolymers and polymers which contain epoxide groups.

When considering the effectiveness of an epoxy adhesive, it is useful to analyze the general formulation of the compounds that constitute it. Epoxies are created by polymerizing a mixture of two starting compounds, the resin and the hardener. When resin is mixed with a specified catalyst, curing is initiated. Curing is the process by which molecular chains react at chemically active sites, resulting in an exothermic reaction. Covalent bonds between the epoxide groups of the resin and the amine groups of the hardener (catalyst) that arise from this combination afford for the cross-linkage of the polymer, and thereby dictate the rigidity and strength of the epoxy.

As the most widely used structural type adhesive, epoxy adhesives are commonly offered as either one component or two component systems. One component epoxy adhesives are generally cured at temperatures between 250-300°F, conditions that engineer a product of high strength, excellent adhesion to metals, and outstanding environmental and harsh chemical resistance. In fact, this product is often used as an alternative to welding and rivets.

One component systems are formulated pre-catalyzed and require only moderate heat to cure, improving efficiency and avoiding error that may result from air entrapment. Furthermore, the speed of cure is rapid—faster than two component systems.

Two component epoxy systems differ in that catalyzation occurs at ambient temperatures and can be accelerated by heat. Adding heat also promotes additional cross-linking resulting in superior properties. Two component systems are suitable for bonding most surfaces. They are considered highly stable due to their ability to withstand a constant weight or force over an extended period of time, as well as their resistance to physical and chemical influences. In addition their powerful ability to withstand a constant weight or force over an extended period of time, as well as their superb resistance to physical and chemical influences, make two-component epoxies a highly stable product.

They are extremely versatile, and can be used for bonding, sealing, coating and encapsulation across many industries including but not limited to electronics, medical devices and aerospace. Special formulations are also flame retardant, cryogenically serviceable, fast curing, high temperature resistant and more.
